Sticky Note Stories: Make Students Express Their Experience

In establishing writing courses in classroom, it's salient for us as a teacher to develop activities which involve students' undertaking. This will fill the learning with a gripping pursuit that won't make students bored and inactive to learn. Also, the activity will make the students practice as well as enhance their affection spots whilst writing. One of the suitable activities to practice writing is sticky note stories.

It's always the same students that are continuously attempting to give us tales, but when it comes time to write, they have nothing to write about. Sticky Note Stories are a quick fix to overcome the matter.

For sure, students are likely to express and share their stories with other people. One of the ways is by writing their experience on a piece of paper. The experience and story are plurals, it can be traveling with family, hanging out with friends, meeting a new loved person, having a birthday party, struggling to reach good marks, and everlasting. It's boundless and immense, so students freely express their needs and stories to each other.

As the beginning, you can instruct the students to mind an experience they had. This will make them do brainstorm before they start writing. In the following step, they try to attempt to write their brief experience on a piece of a sticky note. After that, command them to stick their stories into a wallboard. Therefore, they will see and read about their other friends' experiences exposed altogether.

Then, as the more advanced proceeding, you can mixture the next method with other language skills - reading, speaking, and/or listening. If it reading comprehension, after the students stick their stories altogether, you can instruct some of the students to read aloud their other friends' experiences. If it speaking ability, you can instruct the students to speak about their experiences immediately after they stick their stories. Indeed, if it listening skills, you can say aloud some of their stories and they observe it. Along with listening skills, you can combine the learning process and develop the method with speaking skills. The students have pair-work to share their experiences and listen as well observe their experiences each one. In the classroom activity itself, this strategy is called closed pair-work that ardently engages students to augment their listening and speaking abilities at once.

As the final step, you need to implement this method to follow your class in the writing course. This will make students won't bored and train their affection spots. In addition, they will get indirect communication through the stories they write, and recognize each other. In brief, this method is suitable to become as activity reference to run the writing course in a classroom.
